Overpriced and underperforming. They planned to close for the seaon after our visit but had already closed in spirit. The rooms need a serious makeover as well. Didn't see any other hotels in Sitka but they are all comparably priced. Wouldn't stay here again unless everybody else was full. Great hotel in Sitka right on the downtown waterfront. Front desk is very efficient and checked me in within 1 minute of arrival which was appreciated after arriving on the late flight from Juneau at 1130 pm. Rooms are basic but very clean and the beds/bedding are comfortable and well made. Towels are clean and in good shape. Some noise from downtown scene especially if you are on the side of the hotel that faces the Pioneer bar downtown...but no more than any other hotel I have stayed in. Some rooms have mini fridges and microwaves...some don't. Not sure how this is decided or if it's just luck of the draw. I travel to Sitka frequently for work and I have never had a bad stay at the Totem. NEVER EVER STAY HERE EVER... HORRIBLE.. Rooms cramped, carpet stained and overall dated and unkept... My room was overlooking dumpster and parking lot.. The famous Pioneer Bar..aka...The P Bar..served up unbelievable loud obnoxious noise from people cussing like sailors to firecrackers going off and cars and trucks racing their engines..until 3 am. When I asked to be moved..front desk said it would be more noise upfront over the parking lot?? REALLY.. I called another hotel in Sitka and moved from the totem square inn at 8 am..there was no way I was going to spend another night there. Front desk was ok...not super helpful.. Sitka is a charming community..which I enjoyed for four days.. One star ⭐️ is too generous. DO NOT STAY EVER..EVER.. I do not write bad reviews, but this review was needed.. L Reception very efficient and professional. Rooms are only mediocre. Rooms are not very soundproof. Location is great. Reliable shuttle service. Small rooms but great location. Staff is very helpful.
